Scenic Artist & Props Designer

About Me

Hi, I’m Elizabeth Welp (she/her), a scenic artist and prop technician with a love for storytelling. I’m wrapping up my BFA in Theatre Design and Technology at Nebraska Wesleyan University, where I fell in love with the design world, especially painting and hands-on work. I got my start in the high school ensemble of Matilda, but quickly realized I was more excited about the scene changes than the scenes themselves. That curiosity led me to tech theatre, where I fell in love with scenic painting and prop design, two things I now can’t imagine not doing. I’m especially drawn to period pieces and collaborative environments where research, design, and making come together to build something immersive. Whether I’m painting a set or crafting a prop, I care about supporting the story and helping the world onstage feel real and lived-in. When I’m not in the theatre, I’m oil or watercolor painting, reading some fantasy novel, or slinging lattes as a barista. At the end of the day, I just want to make art with passionate people and tell good stories, one brushstroke (or prop) at a time.
